About the Artwork:
The saying "come hell or high water" means that you are willing to do anything in order to overcome difficult situations.
I saw the sculpture called "The River" by Aristide Maillol that was in MoMA's Sculpture Garden when I visited New York in 2018. I photographed the artwork and decided to paint it as I was very inspired by the emotions portrayed. Even though the woman is about to (literally or figuratively) fall into lava, she still takes the chance to overcome a challenging obstacle in her life.
*This has the signature “Metaphysikal”, the artist’s name before rebranding to Serpentina.
